Hole Spotlight: Number 7 at Lion’s Paw at Ocean Ridge Plantation

Ocean Ridge Plantation is home to four of the most popular courses on The Grand Strand – Tiger’s Eye, Panther’s Run, Leopard’s Chase and Lion’s Paw. The BIG CATS courses all offer a level of challenge and overall golf experience that is unique to each layout

Lion’s Paw Golf Links showcases architect Willard Byrd’s ability to create a memorable layout that offers a striking diversity of challenges and memorable visual appeal. Lion’s Paw is a course that truly rewards driving accuracy and precise shot making.

No. 7 is a gorgeous par 4 with a slight dogleg right that plays 402 yards from the tips and is flanked by full growth pines and oaks down both sides. Remember how we said driving accuracy is a must? Well, No. 7 follows through with that theme.

Standing on the tee box, the first thing you will probably notice are the two large live oaks that serve as both target line and potential obstacle.  Golfers who can squeeze a little extra distance from their driver, without giving up accuracy, can easily split these two oaks and leave a short, unobstructed approach to the relatively small and shallow MiniVerde green. Bunkers on both sides of the green add an extra element of danger to anyone losing focus on their approach.

Miss your drive to either side, or leave it short of the two live oaks, and you will have to call on all your shotmaking skills to salvage a par.
